claudio stern

Claudio Stern is a Professor of Anatomy and head of the Research Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, at the University College London.

​

Claudio is well known for his studies of gastrulation and for disentangling mechanisms that initiate the development of the nervous system. He has shown that somites play a role in determining the segmentation of the nervous system, and his work, in collaboration with Cliff Tabin, led to the discovery of the first genes that specify differences between the left and right sides of the body.

​

Claudio is a member of the Scientific Council of Institut Pasteur in Paris and was President of the International Society of Developmental Biologists (ISDB) from January of 2010 to December of 2013.

scott miller

Scott Miller is a Professor in the Division of Biological Sciences at the University of Montana with research interests in the origins, maintenance and distribution of microbial diversity and a particular fondness for cyanobacteria from extreme environments.

 

Before coming to Montana, he obtained his PhD in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Oregon and was a postdoctoral fellow at NASA Ames Research Center and in the Department of Genetics at North Carolina State University.

Scott is currently on sabbatical leave, at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência.
